The Disney Creativity Strategy


Take the mental strategy of one of the world's greatest creative geniuses and apply it to the generation, evaluation and implementation of ideas. The method can be used by you as an individual or by you and your team and is great for testing the viability of a business project or idea.

There are four roles which you can assume one at a time if working alone, or if there are four or more members of the team, then allocate one role per person or group of people, as applicable. The roles are as follows:

Role One - The Dreamer

Their characteristics:

  • Thinks of the bigger picture
  • Brainstorms free-flowing ideas and is unrestricted by practicality
  • Their posture is relaxed, head and eyes are facing up toward the ceiling
 

 

 

Role Two - Realist

Their characteristics:

  • Focuses on the rational, realistic, short-term
  • Considers the practical application
  • Proceeds assuming the ideas are achievable
  • Posture is symmetrical, sat upright with head and eyes straight ahead

Role Three - Critic

Their characteristics:

  • Focuses on what could go wrong
  • Considers problems in the short and long term
  • Posture is asymmetric, head on one side, eyes down and to the left

Role Four -Spectator

Their characteristics:

  • Unbiased spectator
  • Note taker and information gatherer
